Gahwara Inc. has rapidly established a strong presence in Canada through a series of successful cultural events and outreach activities across the country:
Toronto, Ontario
Hosted a launch event at the Oak Ridge Library in Richmond Hill, inaugurating our adult book division, Kabul Books. The event showcased our inaugural publications and received an overwhelming response from Afghan cultural figures and the broader community. We also participated in the 8th Tehran Book Fair Uncensorship at the University of Toronto, presenting over 120 titles and engaging with a diverse audience of over 2,500 visitors.
Montreal, Quebec
Participated in the 8th Tehran Book Fair Uncensorship at the University of Quebec, continuing the success of the Toronto event. Over the course of two days, we engaged with approximately 2,000 attendees, showcasing our publications and promoting Afghan literature without censorship.
Vancouver, British Columbia
Organized a special book reading event at the Vancouver Public Library, Central Library, where Gahwara presented a selection of its children’s books to Afghanistani children and their families. The event included interactive storytelling sessions and the distribution of books, fostering a connection between Afghanistani communities and their cultural heritage.
Calgary, Alberta
Partnered with Amiri Publications to hold a series of workshops and storytelling sessions, focusing on themes of cultural resilience, Afghan narratives, and experiences. These events were well-received and played a crucial role in promoting cultural integration and understanding among diverse communities in Alberta.
Ottawa, Ontario
Collaborated with Simab Translation Services Corporation to organize literary events and discussions, including bilingual (English/Farsi) workshops that focused on the importance of cultural translation and preserving literary heritage. These activities contributed to enriching the local community’s understanding of Afghan literature and its significance.
Other Locations Across Canada
We are in active discussions with potential partners in cities such as Halifax to expand our cultural outreach and activities, including bilingual poetry readings, literary discussions, and educational workshops.
